The building where we run our literally stone-built shop is one of the oldest inhabited places in Prague. It was originally the Church of St. Procopius, built in the 13th century by the Knights of Malta. In 1420, the church was burned down by the Hussites, and in 1693, it was reconstructed in the Baroque style. In 1784, it was converted into a residential building. Its current appearance is the work of Prague-based architect of Italian origin, Johann Ignaz Palliardi.

Worth mentioning is also the statue of St. Procopius on the façade of our shop, depicting the traditional allegory of St. Procopius holding a chained dragon—a symbol of his victory over the devil and demons. This statue is placed in a niche directly above the entrance to our shop.
Legend has it that somewhere in the cellars of this building, a dragon egg is sealed within the walls, causing an unusual warmth in these spaces. I can confirm this—I have personally visited the cellars, and it is indeed noticeably warmer down there than one would expect in an underground space...
